An internal investigation found a reporter’s information was saved under an administration official’s contact.
The White House revealed the results of its investigation into the addition of a reporter to a high-profile Signal group chat last month. The administration said that the iPhone’s “contact suggestion update” was the lynchpin in National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’s inclusion of The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief.
The journalist had emailed a spokesman for President Trump last fall, who forwarded the contact information to Michael Waltz. The now-national security advisor’s phone auto-suggested the new phone number be added to the spokesman’s contact information.
The phone number laid dormant until NSA Waltz added the phone number he thought belonged to the administration communications official to a Signal chat on March 11. The chat involved a number of high-level defense officials, including Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance, were discussing future air strikes against rebels in Yemen.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For National Security Advisor Waltz to be discerning regarding technology and high-level communications.
- For officials in the president’s administration to be aware of the features of smart phones and other connected devices.
- With gratitude to the Lord that the event did not compromise national security or reveal classified data.
